Exceptional aerodynamics

Excellent aerodynamic performance is a cornerstone of the New Generation DAF trucks. Following extensive simulations and road tests, an extremely low air drag is realized by perfectly guiding wind around, through and under the truck. This results in the best possible aerodynamic performance, which boosts your fuel efficiency and your bottom line.

 

High-end driveline performance

 

DAF is introducing a new generation of 10.8 and 12.9 litre PACCAR MX engines in the new DAF XF, XG and XG+. With more torque and several new technical innovations that lift efficiency to an even higher level. The innovations are almost too numerous to mention, but they include:

  • a new engine block and cylinder head
  • newly designed injectors
  • a next generation turbo compressor

 

Engine Aftertreatment System 

The Engine Aftertreatment System (EAS) delivers great performance, thanks to a new design and routing. A newly designed exhaust-over-chassis adds to minimise heat loss between engine and EAS even further for maximum efficiency.

Gearbox

Latest generation transmissions

New Generation DAF trucks have TraXon automated gearboxes fitted as standard to deliver an efficient, environmentally-friendly driveline with great drivability. Key technologies include automatic drive-off gear selection, various predictive features and (optional) urge-to-move.

 

Smart fuel controls

Predictive functionalities of the TraXon gearbox also include the latest generation Predictive Cruise Control and new EcoRoll functionalities that allow up to 93 km/h at the end of a descent. EcoRoll prevents unnecessary braking and resulting energy losses. In addition, Preview Downhill Speed Control, combined with the powerful MX engine brake, removes the need for an Intarder, reducing overall vehicle weight and adding to your efficiency.

 

Highly efficient rear axles

The New Generation DAF trucks are available with 8 and 9 tonnes front axles and a wide range of 11.5 and 13 tonnes driven rear axles with or without hub reduction and in combination with pusher or trailing axle if required. A full range of rear axle ratios ensures the best possible efficiency for every application. To further optimize efficiency, low oil levels and optimized pinion bearings reduce friction losses. The latest generation brake calipers is applied which are light and very robust, while Active Caliper Releases prevent friction losses when the brakes are not applied.

Next level cooling system

With the New Generation XF, XG and XG+, passive cooling is taken to the next-level by adding flow guides for excellent under hood aerodynamics, a full-face air cooler to improve temperature management and cab-mounted encapsulation to enhance airflow. These features ensure minimal fan engagement through optimal use of every kilogram of air that enters the grille. And that simply saves energy.

 
 
Chassis

Excellent bodybuilder-friendliness

The New Generation XF, XG and XG⁺ offer excellent bodybuilder-friendliness through extensive wiring prepared for quick and easy installing all common bodies as well as components like tail lifts. A wide range of electric and electronic functions for PTO engagement, air suspension settings and body equipment controls for instance, is available to support complex body equipment. Also body attachment modules are available on the chassis for efficient fitment of bodies. In addition, to support high bodybuilder-friendliness the New XF, XG and XG⁺ are available with an extensive range of powerful engine, gearbox and flywheel PTOs, adding to the New Generation DAF’s class leading efficiency.

 

Flexibility is part of the DNA of each and every DAF truck. The position of nearly all chassis components, as well as the Engine After treatment System, can be tailored to your needs. You can also indicate which of the available DAF Body Attachment Modules (BAM) need to be mounted ex-factory on the flat chassis. All this, allows superstructures to be mounted quickly and efficiently.

DAF also offers numerous options for controlling the bodywork and equipment from the cab – and vice versa – either by analogue means or via the special bodybuilder CAN bus, which allows signals and warnings to be passed on to the cab and which are clearly projected on the large digital display.

The right PTO for every application

Bodies often need a power take-off. DAF offers no less than 68 different PTO options, ranging from clutch-independent, engine-driven power take-offs positioned at 11 o’clock and 1 o’clock to clutch-dependent gearbox PTOs. All of these power take-offs are available with either pump mounting or flange drive. DAF also offers the option of simultaneous operating up to three PTOs independently of each other.

Plug & Play

And what about DAF’s unique Plug & Play program, developed in close cooperation with 25 leading body builders in Europe. The aim is optimise the specification, ordering and body-building processes. You can simply select pre-specified plug-and-play body building options in our order system, so that after mounting the body onto the chassis and connecting the connector, the body is immediately ready for use. Next to those developed in cooperation with leading body builders, general plug & play options are available for the installation of hook lifts, cranes, tippers, mixers and skip loaders.

 
 

10 year PACCAR Connect included

All New Generation DAF trucks come with a 10 year PACCAR Connect subscription. This new online fleet management platform provides real-time information on the performance of the entire fleet, individual vehicles as well as drivers, thereby helping operators to optimize efficiency and returns. The platform also enables efficient over-the-air vehicle updates.

A major benefit of PACCAR Connect is the easy integration with existing logistic applications from so called ‘third parties’, setting a new standard in fleet management systems. This makes it easier to monitor all logistical processes from one device, adding to the comfort of the driver. To achieve maximum efficiency, PACCAR Connect also makes use of ‘geofencing’, which notifies the home base or destination whenever a truck is nearing a delivery location.
