HBO graduation: Optimization of the simulation program for virtual validation during engine development

 Optimization of the simulation program for virtual validation during engine development

  • Locatie Eindhoven
  • Afdeling Internships Eindhoven
  • Fulltime Fulltime
  • Opleidingsniveau Bachelor
  • Contracttype Stage contract

Functiebeschrijving

Constant progress in simulation speed and accuracy makes possible to reduce the amount of physical tests needed to develop an engine and to replace them by simulations to save time and costs. A virtual validation plan is defined at the start of an engine program.

Few years later, a retrospection is done to identify the simulations which were missing or the physical tests which could have been covered by simulations.

The goals of this project are:

  • To re-examine coolant and air systems (excluding combustion) simulations and tests in a past engine project;
  • To propose improvement in measurements to get more comparable outputs between physical and virtual tests;
  • to identify the physical tests which could be replaced. Several aspects will be considered like total timing and cost, accuracy, reliability.

Jouw profiel

We are looking for

  • An independent trainee which can interact with several teams (virtual testing, physical testing, validation, mechanical experts) and look for the data needed;
  • Good background in (diesel) engine;
  • Fluent English is mandatory, Dutch is appreciated;
  • Education: (enrolled in) Bachelor in applied physics, mechanical engineering or automotive.
Starting date and duration:
Anytime from January 2025, minimum of 4 months.

Afdeling

The Global Powertrain department is responsible for the development of new engine hardware concepts and maintaining the in-production engine families. The CAE (computer aided engineering) & Systems group has an open position for a trainee.
